Data Den: Introduction to Data Visualization with Datawrapper (hybrid)

Data visualization is a powerful way to communicate your research. There are many data visualization tools available, but knowing how to design an effective chart or graph is just as important as knowing how to use these tools. In this workshop, we will review the basics of data visualization and use Datawrapper, a free and open-source tool, to create engaging visualizations while keeping accessibility and reproducibility in mind.

By the end of this lesson, workshop attendees will:

  • Learn different types of graphs/charts and the best use cases for them

  • Learn the fundamentals of data visualization design, including the importance of position, ordering, shape, size, and color

  • Incorporate principles of accessibility, reproducibility, and data justice into their visualizations

  • Use a sample dataset to make exploratory visualizations using DataWrapper

This workshop is offered both in person and virtually. If you register to attend virtually, you will receive a Zoom link. If you register to attend in person, please join us in the Stone classroom, room 103, located in Mann Library.
