Data Den: Introduction to GitHub for Solo Projects (hybrid)
Join us for this basic introduction to GitHub! You’ll learn how to create and manage a GitHub repository, make and save changes using commits, edit files, upload content, and create branches to test changes—all through the GitHub web interface. No command line or Git experience required!
This session focuses on using GitHub for solo projects. A follow-up workshop (Workshop 2) will cover collaborative workflows, including branches, forks, pull requests. A third, more advanced session will be offered in the Spring and will introduce Git and the command line.
By the end of this lesson, workshop attendees will be able to:
-
Create and manage a GitHub repository to organize and track their project files.
-
Make and save changes to their code or content using commits and understand how GitHub keeps a history of their work.
-
Use the GitHub web interface to edit files, upload new content, and optionally create branches to test changes separately from the main project.
This workshop is offered both in person and virtually. If you register to attend virtually, you will receive a Zoom link. If you register to attend in person, please join us in the Stone classroom, room 103, located in Mann Library.
