So You Want to Make a Website

Tuesday, April 29, 2025 | 2pm-3pm

Olin Library 701

Websites are not only cool, but essential to our daily lives. Yet many of us rely on big box corporate platforms like Wix and Squarespace to make sites that look the same as everyone else’s and that constantly spam us to upgrade to premium. Ditching cookie-cutter themes, paid features, and expensive domains, this workshop will get you started with thinking about how to approach making your first website from scratch and deciding which tools would be right for you to build your site with. This workshop doesn’t intend to give you a full-blown website in an hour, but rather to guide you through the software, tools, skills, and resources you can use to carve out a little bit of digital real estate for yourself, whether for a professional portfolio website or a fun blog!

This workshop is open to anyone who has never made a website before or has only used Wix, Squarespace, or a similar platform. Attendees should bring a personal laptop or tablet or contact the event organizer to arrange a loaner.
