Introduction to Text Analysis

Why use programmatic methods to interpret texts? In this session, we will introduce you to a set of open source tools and frequently used methodologies to uncover patterns in large collections of text. You will be introduced to a range of topics, from counting or location-based methods to more complex modeling approaches. We will focus on AntConc and Mallet, two powerful open source tools, and also introduce how programming languages like Python might facilitate deeper dives into texts.
