Finding and Using Open Data for Social Sciences

Hundreds of thousands of datasets exist in open data repositories. These range from government portals (opendata.cityofnewyork.us, data.gov.in) to research data repositories (dataverse.harvard.edu). Working with this data is an incredible opportunity for researchers in the social sciences - and it’s also confusing!

This workshop will introduce you to the open data landscape, and give you the tools to find, evaluate, download, and interpret open data. No prior programming experience required. (Students may also be interested in enrolling in “How Do I Fetch Data from APIs?”)
